Quartzite is a non-foliated metamorphic rock that was originally pure quartz sandstone. Through heating and pressure, the sandstone is transformed into an incredibly hard and dense material that combines the exotic veining of marble with the durability of granite.
The Luxury Standard: Aesthetics Meets Hardness
Quartzite typically ranks 7.0 on the Mohs scale, making it harder than steel. This exceptional density makes it highly resistant to scratching and abrasion. Unlike marble, pure quartzite is chemically inert and does not react with household acids, although many "soft quartzites" (which contain calcite) should be specified with care.
Due to quartzite's extreme hardness, we utilize specialized diamond-tipped CNC tooling and waterjet cutting (300-320 bar) to prevent edge chipping and ensure precise joint calibration. For translucent varieties like Patagonia or Taj Mahal, we offer calibrated 20mm slabs optimized for backlighting.
Origins & Selection
We specialize in Brazilian Exotics, sourcing directly from the Minas Gerais and Espirito Santo regions. Our selection focuses on material with high translucency and rhythmic veining patterns, ideal for focal-point architectural features.
